Festival Makeup Instructions

-start by using a foundation – this will give the makeup something to adheard to, please follow the foundation down the neck so that we don’t have a line under the chin, please make sure that you also cover the lips with foundation

-put black mascara on the dancers’ natural eyelash

-next put your dancer’s eyelashes on (this will save you from redoing eyeshadow if you don’t get it on correctly the first time

-before using the glue measure the eyelash, if it is to long, trim away the excess from the inside part of the lash not the outside

-put a good amount of glue on the top of the eyelash give the glue a moment to become tacky(glue from MAC makeup – located at WEM & the bay is the best)

-lightly press the eyelash onto the dancers’ eye, just above the natural lash

-put the cream/white shade of eyeshadow on the very top of the eyelid (above the natural crease line), next to the brown line

-put the light brown on the largest part of the eyelid

-make a crease in the natural crease line of the eye with the darkest brown (only make the crease from the corner of the eye to the middle of the eye)

-do not blend these colours together – it is important that we are able to see all 3 layers of colour

-colour black eyeliner on top of the false eyelash to cover glue, this step is a must

**if the dancer has very light eyebrows you’ll need to colour these in otherwise from stage they will look like they have no brows

-blush is the next step, make sure you start on the apple of the cheek and brush up towards the hairline (this will make sure you don’t end up with a clump of blush at the hairline), blush needs to be dark otherwise the dancer will look washed out under the stage lights

-take the lip liner (this is very important so that the lipstick doesn’t bleed out off the lip line) and outline the dancers’ natural lip line, if their lips are very small colour just outside the natural lip to give a fuller lip appearance, lightly colour in the lips with the pencil

-lip stick next, if the dancer has small lips try using a lip brush for a cleaner application

-eye rhinestones -  place a small amount of glue on the back of the rhinestone and place it on the dancers face, 3 on each side starting at the bottom of the eye and going up towards the hair line (tweezers may help if you don’t have a steady hand, you may also find it easier to place a glue drop on the dancers’ face and then put the eye rhinestone on it after

2012 - Festival Hair Instructions

1)Make a 2inch part over the dancers right eye, following the dancer’s natural hairline continue the part down towards the dancers left ear – making a ½ part.  This line needs to be very defined, please use a fine tooth comb for this – be sure to keep the ½ part the same thickness as you bring the part down towards the ear.  Leave this section of hair and move on to the balance of hair.

2)Back comb the top of the hair to make a small poof/bubble – make sure you comb the hair clean so that we can not see your “nesting” of the back combing.

3)Brush all hair into a side ponytail on the left side of the head – secure the elastic (this needs to match the hair colour) in line with the top of the ear.

4)Curl the pony tail and pin all of the curls down, making a bun of curls on the side of the head.  Make sure to spray each curl so that the hair is clean with no fuzz or flyaways.  You will need many bobbypins to secure the hair in place.  Using a curling iron after sponge rollers usually makes the curls cleaner and more crisp.

5)Go back to the ½ sweep and French braid (pulling the hair over top not under into a corn braid) all the way down the loose hair.  When you get to the end of the braid secure with an elastic (this will come out later).

6)Pull the end of the French braid behind the ear and secure with a couple of bobbypins.  Remove the elastic and form this bit of hair into a curl so that it looks like a part of the “bun of curls”.

*Clean and tidy hair is very important  - NO FLY AWAYS

** Keep in mind this is stage makeup and should be a lot darker than every day makeup.

We are judged on grooming!!
