Miss Kim Ehlers (16th year on staff)

Instructs: tap, jazz, ballet and turns & jumps

Miss Kim has trained at professional studios in Edmonton in the disciplines of tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical and Ukrainian.  Over the years Miss Kim has participated in various festivals and competitions in Canada, United States as well as Japan.  During her high school years she was also a member of her high school’s cheer team and won a provincial championship as well as many international titles.  For the past 18years Miss Ehlers has been instructing students at various studios in Edmonton, Devon, Vegreville, Stony Plain and Leduc.  She has also had the opportunity to teach in Mexico and Sydney Australia.  In the past few years Miss Kim has also been called upon to instruct workshops and summer camps at various studios in Alberta & British Columbia. She has also been hired to choreograph routines for the cheerleading team of a local Junior High School.  Miss Kim is well known for her strong tap routines.  In July 2008 Miss Kim furthered her training in New York City with some of the senior dancers.  The group took in several musicals, the sights of the city and studied at “Steps On Broadway” and “Broadway Dance Center”.  This past summer Miss Kim had 33 dancers qualify to perform on one of the stages at the Disneyland Park in California.  The group also studied with several master instructors at the “Edge Performing Arts Center”.  Miss Ehlers is a current member of the Alberta Dance Educators Association and is very active in the dance community including running a dance festival as well as a dance retail store.  She has been a part of the staff at the school for 15 years and the proud owner of the studio for the past 10 seasons.  Miss Kim looks forward to the 18th year of the studio and loves the excitement and energy each season brings.

 
Miss Kati Bihari (5th year on staff)

Instructs: ballet, demi/pointe, contemporary, stretch & strength

A Hungarian Junior Championship bronze medal skater in 1971, Kati danced children’s roles with the Hungarian State Opera in the ’70s. She also choreographed and coached international competitive skaters in the early 1980s. Kati graduated from the Hungarian Academy of Dance Arts in 1984 as a professional dance arts performer. She was a corps de ballet dancer in the Hungarian State Opera from 1984-1987. Later she taught at the Scuola di Danza Suzanna Egri, Torino, Italy. She left there to dance and choreograph in her role as Assistant to the Artistic Director in the Theatre of Ulm, Germany.  Since arriving in Edmonton in 1992, Kati has been an instructor, choreographer and examiner for the Russian Vaganova Dance Technique Society and ballet and stretch instructor for the Royal Glenora Club. Her primary focus has been as a ballet educator and choreographer, teaching ballet, pointe, modern dance and stretch technique.  Miss Kati is an instructor who is in high demand, Devon Dance is so very lucky to have her as a part of our staff.  We highly recommend her stretch class to all dancers who wish to improve their flexibility. 

 

Miss Alyssa Barker (2nd year on staff)

Instructs: jazz, ballet, musical theatre and lyrical

Miss Alyssa is credited for being an excellent and dedicated dance instructor. She has successfully trained in numerous forms of dance including jazz, ballet, lyrical, pointe, musical theatre and tap for the past 15 years. Alyssa has had the wonderful opportunity to take classes at Broadway Dance Centre, Steps on Broadway, Harbour Dance Centre, Triple Threat and many more. She previously taught at L.A. Dance Academy. Throughout the last six years she has devoted her time and energy into teaching and assisting children of all ages. One of her strengths as a teacher is having the patience and ability to explain things in a way that each individual can understand. Alyssa is excited to get back to teaching dance after 6 months of traveling around Europe and Australia. In the fall, Alyssa is also looking forward to attending the University of Alberta for a degree in the Science Faculty.  Devon School of Dance is looking forward to learning from Miss Alyssa.
